I have not come to bring peace, but a sword
The Christian life is challenging - not at all simple. Jesus is needing us to be clear about this, because there will always be times when we meet opposition to our faithful living. The sword Jesus talks about in the uncompromising passage (Matt 10:34) we have today is going to be different for each one of us. Even Mary had a sword to face (Simion’s prophesy - ‘a sword shall pierce your heart’).
Remember the entirety of Jesus’ message though. Many times, Jesus says “do not be afraid”.
