'The Lord is my shepherd...'
is such a well known Psalm, that even those who do not practice their faith at all, are likely to know it - it is somehow part of our culture (English, Christian White Culture anyhow..!). For example, recently I was working with a small group of 14 to 16 year olds, and we read the psalm in an unfamiliar translation. They were flummoxed, because their minds wanted to read a certain set of words, but the print took them elsewhere.
Although familiarity does sometimes bring a contempt - or at least a chance to forget what the text is meaning - it also brings a comforting sureness. Which of course, Christ our Priestly king also brings - there will never be another.
