Blessed the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.

Jeremiah warns us, in the carefully balanced poem in todays reading, that if we rely on human strength (money, possessions, power) then we are relying on puff. We are blessed if instead we trust in the Lord.
The story of Lazarus only appears in Luke's Gospel, the Gospel written to remind us of our absolute responsibility towards the poor. The Pope has reminded us of this ('the preferential option for the poor' often colouring the writing of Pope Francis).
On a global scale all of us living in 'the west' are very well off. Perhaps this lent we can make some donation or another to those most in need. Indeed, we are supposed to!
