With echos of the beatitudes, Jesus lets us know with no doubt, how we must treat our fellow humans.
Jesus is probably referencing the book of Leviticus (the first reading today). So what Jesus is teaching is nothing new at all. We have - or should have - always known that our priority must be those less able than ourselves to take care of themselves. At a time when governments across the globe are reducing aid budgets, we perhaps need to add to our contributions to CAFOD or other agencies determined to remove the inequality across our globe.
"Then they also will answer, saying,
“Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty
or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison,
and did not minister to you?”
Then he will answer them, saying,
“Truly, I say to you,
as you did not do it to one of the least of these,
you did not do it to me.”
