Wednesday of week 7

Sirach 4:11-19; Ps 119(118):165, 168. 171-172. 174-175; Mark 9:38-40

The short Gospel today provides much scope for debate. Pope Francis has worked hard to remove 'clericalism' from he church. The all to human tendency to build structures and hierarchy with which to wield controlling power can lead to repression of the good that God planted in everyone. There are many examples where such power is unwisely used and sometimes mis used.

Everyone baptised, is baptised as Priest, Prophet and King. We all have the same responsibility to use those states, set upon us by God, to do good.

If you see someone trying to do good, but outside the 'control' of church structures, contemplate: are what they are doing really to the benefit of all? If it is, then it is wise to assume that God is at work in that person. But if only some are blessed, and others are excluded, then be wary.
