1 Peter 5:1-4; Ps 23(22):1-3a. 3b-4. 5. 6; Matthew 16:13-19
This feast has been celebrated in Rome since at least the fourth century. It signifies the unity of the Church founded upon the Apostles. The statue of St Peter, seated in his chair, in the Basilica of St Peters Rome, has over the centuries of devotion, found his right foot to have had the toes almost worn away by passers by touching them! This feature is faithfully reproduced in our small scale copy of the statue, located near our Lady Chapel towards the front of the church on the right hand side.
