Hebrews 10:11-18; Ps 110(109):1. 2. 3. 4; Mark 4:1-20
For most of the parables Jesus told, we are not given his interpretation, but are left to work out an understanding for ourselves. The parable of the seeds, given in today's Gospel is a notable exception. Once given this interpretation, one might be tempted to just accepting it as it is, but Jesus does actually leave us quite a bit to still work out. Why? At one level, if he was a teacher, he would know that when you make your students work at a text, they will remember it better.
What do we still need to work out?
What does it mean to have a root? What does it mean to receive with joy? What in our life could be a 'care of the world' or a 'deceit of riches' that we need to root out?
