What does this expression ‘son of God’ mean? It is not, of course, human, physical sonship. In Hebrew it is used of the angels, messengers, guards and courtiers of God; above all, they are God’s agents who exercise God’s power, who share God’s will and enact it; they are the powers of God. It is used also of Israel, God’s beloved son, lovingly cherished by God, in the embrace of the father and sometimes the mother of the People. If you only read this passage (and some others like it) then you might easily assume that Jesus was actually some sort of angel or Spirit. But taken as a whole, including the birth narratives, the genealogies of Christ, the Gospels clearly show that Jesus is both Divine, and also was human.
If we allow Jesus to save us, then so are we - currently Human, we will form part of the Divine Kingdom of God.
