It is becoming easier to come across opposition to our views, as society moves towards ever more liberal attitudes accepting the 'right' to end ones life, the 'right' not to carry a child to term, and so on.
In the face of this it seems crazy advice not to prepare a defence! Yet that is what he Lord wants. [Luke 21] In a practical sense, if you have prepared a defence and then come across someone who has been or seems to be taking a choice which we know is wrong, it is very easy to then simply repeat your oft-rehearsed statements. That may not be the pastoral thing to do as they may actually be in need of care and support, to deal with the consequences of their or others choices.
Be assured of the absolute correctness of your views, but be assured of the importance of listening to others. If you show the you understand their position, then it may be they will hear God speaking through yourself and thus come to know and trust God's wisdom.
