Ephesians 5:25-33; Psalm 127(128):1-5; Luke 13:18-21
St Paul is writing with good advice to the Ephesians, and even though his advice is perhaps rather one way, dealing only with the Love a husband must show towards his wife, it is valid advice.
The way that St Paul links this love, which one must hope was well known by his readers, to the relationship between the church and God is so important. Just as a husband loves his wife, so God loves His church: Cleaning it in the water that flowed from Christs's side on the cross, making it glorious, spotless, with no wrinkle. Such unmeasured love!
All relationships require mutuality - and St Paul captures this telling us to respect God, as a wife respects her husband.
