Saint Pius of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), Priest

Saint Pius of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), Priest; Psalm 14(15):2-5; Luke 8:16-18

Our gospel today tells us that no one hides a light under a bowl (it would go out as the oxygen is used up) or under the bed (the bedclothes would surely catch fire! Jesus is using  exaggerated illustrations to enlighten us about a truth: nothing is hidden, all will be made clear.

Padre Pio did not hide the light of christ away from his parishioners - nor did he ever boast about it. But his flame surely burnt brightly in the hearts of those many thousands who sought him out for the sacrament of reconciliation. He suffered from the stigmata for 50 years - almost to the day - and over 100,000 people attended his funeral. He is certainly a saint that we can call upon in our prayers.
