Wednesday of week 24 in Ordinary Time

1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13; Psalm 32(33):2-5,12,22; Luke 7:31-35

The idea of children shouting in the market place suggests a normal everyday scene - children perhaps teasing their elders and betters. Jesus was observing that the religious leaders were not able to choose between John the Baptist's ascetic approach or the Good News Jesus brought.

In fact, both are needed - in the right season. As Ecclesiastes says there is a time for everything - to fight, to make peace, to fast, to party.
