Tuesday of week 23

1 Corinthians 6:1-11; Psalm 149:1-6,9; Luke 6:12-19

Todays reading of Paul is slightly troubling, because it is very close to supporting the actions of a few in the church who have chosen to keep hidden from public scrutiny, that which most certainly should be opened up. The evil of 'clericalism' that our holy father Pope Francis warns us about, is different from that which Paul is talking about. Paul is talking about disagreements between members of the community, not sins committed against vulnerable members of our church.

So if we do have our disagreements about how liturgy should be organised, or who should sit where in church, or any one of a hundred minor things about our spiritual and social lives together, it is indeed correct that we should sort them out with the advice and (if needed) judgement of the curia - the 'civil seervants' of the church. You may be pleased to hear that our local curia, has an open conference on 5th October.
