SVP Annual Report

The members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) in Cheltenham (formed by an amalgamation of the St Gregory’s and St Thomas More conferences) would like to thank you for your continued support. Your generous donations allow us to provide help to a wide range of people in Cheltenham.

The SVP is part of an international Christian voluntary network dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to local people in need. We visit vulnerable or isolated people and offer them friendship and practical support. The essence of our work is person-to-person contact. Spending time with people is our greatest gift.

We visit people in their own homes or in Care Homes. This is a very rewarding aspect of our work so please get in touch if you, or someone you know, would appreciate a visit.

Over the last year we have provided help to the homeless either directly, or by supplying groceries to Open Door. We have helped asylum seekers and refugees with donations of food and help with buying household items. We have also had success in applying for grants from the central SVP fund to help individual families setting up home. We have provided help to our two primary schools providing food for the food bank, Christmas presents and help in buying items of school uniform. We have also been pleased to help individual families with practical and financial support.

While the bulk of the SVP's work takes place in England and Wales, we never lose sight of the often desperate plight of people in the developing world. We make two donations each year to our twin conferences in Guyana and India. We also support the SVP Sudan appeal.

We are happy to consider any request for help.
