Monday of the 2nd week of Lent

Daniel 9:4-10; Psalm 78(79):8-9,11,13; Luke 6:36-38

The prophet Daniel is urging us to be aware of God's compassion. "You have compassion for those who keep your commandments..." but gos on to warn us that we are sinners and do not deserve Gods compassion. This is of course true - but Jesus throughout the Gospel of Luke teaches us that the Father's love and compassion is endless. Jesus models how to be compassionate in so many encounters with those he meets. Greedy tax collectors, women who move from husband to husband, rich people who struggle to leave their prosperity behind - they are all welcomed peacefully, with love, and compassion.

'Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back.’
