Newsletter for the Catholic Community in Cheltenham

Fr David writes:

I hope you are all well. I must say I find it very strange not seeing you all on a Sunday, but I do remember you in my prayers every day, especially those who are unwell at this time. It will really be extraordinary to celebrate the Triduum and Easter without all the familiar faces, but fully entering into the mysteries of our redemption is perhaps even more important than ever when, though we are a community, we are forced into physical isolation. The thing that really and truly binds us together is our incorporation into the body of Christ whose death and resurrection we remember and celebrate, because it is in that, that we find our salvation.

Stations of the Cross, 17:00 Palm Sunday

As we can not meet in Church to do the Stations of the Cross, please if you can, join our ‘virtual stations’. There will be a link on the parish website to join this which you need to click on at 16:55 on Sunday to connect to the ‘zoom’ meeting using any computer with a microphone and speakers, or a smart phone.

On good Friday there will also be podcasts of Stations of the Cross and the Passion reading.

Daily Prayers

It is really important that during this difficult time, we keep up our prayer life.  Each week I will post some prayers I hope we can all say at 8.00 a.m. wherever we find ourselves.  This will enable us to unite ourselves as a parish in prayer.  The first three prayers will remain standard, but the fourth prayer for our current situation will change each week.

A podcast of me reciting the Angelus is posted on the webpage.  If you would at noon set aside a few minutes to say this ancient prayer with me wherever you find yourself and thus place yourself under the protection of Our Lady at this difficult time.

Sunday Homilies and Holy Week

A podcast of the Gospel and a homily will be posted on the web page for this Sunday, i.e. Palm Sunday. I will also post one for Holy Thursday and for Easter.

PLEASE NOTE: Baptisms, First Holy Communions celebrations and the Sacrament of marriage will be postponed, until a time that allows family and friends to gather safely within our churches.
